Modeling Web for Knowledge Integration and Creation

摘要

The paper discusses the roles and mutual relations between mathematical modeling and knowledge in the context of rational analysis and solution of complex problems. It summarizes basic issues of model-based support for decision making, and outlines a Modeling Web, which is a virtual network of real elements that are dynamically configured to structures needed for various activities within a process of modeling a complex problem. The paper summarizes basic characteristic of the Structured Modeling Technology supporting the whole modeling process. The main part of the paper deals with the relations between modeling and knowledge. It discusses how knowledge is integrated in and created by these elements of the structured modeling process where the relations are strongest. This discussion is illustrated by complex applications. Finally the paper outlines possible directions of future, in particular those related to semantic grid.
