A Prototype Environment for Group Argumentation

Along with the development of networking and distributed computing technologies, people expect more effective computer tools to support C~3 (communication - collaboration -consensus) type activities for group work in complex problem solving. In this paper, we present a computer-based prototype, group argumentation environment (GAE), which supports loosely coupled group's activities. There are mainly three modules in current GAE system, brainstorming argumentation room (BAR), automatic affinity diagramming module, and nominal group technique module (NG). The more complex the problem is, the wider the set of experts skills that are required to define the problem and find a feasible solution of the problem. GAE aims to facilitate the C3 activities between the experts during problem solving process. It is one part of our on-going large NSFC project to build a prototype for Hall of Workshop for Meta-Synthetic Engineering (HWMSE)
