Three types of mechanisms and processes of sulfate attack on roller compacted concrete (RCC) with novel MgObearing expansive agent have been proposed by investigating the microstructure of RCC with the optical micrograph and the composition of interface with SEM-EDS of the specimens immersed in 5 % sodium sulfate solution for one year. Results showed that the microstructures of roller compacted concrete have been improved by hydration and un-hydrated products in the presence of addition agent, and the voids reduced. Thus the impermeability and sulfate resistance may be improved slightly.
