THE MODERN CABLE-STAYED BRIDGE- 50 YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT FROM 1955 TO 2005

The modern cable-stayed bridge was introduced in 1955 at the construction of the Strbmsund Bridge in Sweden. In the following 50-year period the cable-stayed bridges have experienced a development like no other bridge type and today the cable-stayed bridge is the preferred solution within a very large span range. The paper describes a number of the milestones in the development of cable-stayed bridges throughout the last half century.
