An experimental study of distortional buckling of castellated steel beams is described. Despite the considerable volume of research on both structural behavior of castellated beams and distortional buckling of steel I-beams, reported in the literature, distortional buckling of castellated beams seems to be untouched. Therefore, considering the importance of further recognition of structural behavior of castellated beams as extensively-used structural members in accordance with their enhanced structural performance and other specifications, a series of six tests on full-scale castellated beams has been performed with the aim of experimental verification and investigation of distortion in these sections. A comparison has also been made between experimental and theoretical predictions of buckling loads. In addition to experimental verification of web distortion in these sections, the agreement between experimentally and theoretically obtained buckling loads seems to be satisfactory.
