摘要

Acoustic emission is a technique of nondestructive test, of great usefulness in detecting internal defects in materials and equipment; this technique has been extensively applied in many technological areas. Their properties have become acoustic emission an important preventive inspection tool, non-invasive, a simple alternative to other techniques. In some cases the equipment access was motivated by results of gascromatography of insulating oil, in others the aim was to find mechanical defects (Ex. loose components), which are not detectable by conventional methods. The aim of this paper is to show the experience with this kind of equipment evaluation, emphasizing the advantages and problems when using acoustic emission on-site, as well as what kind of defects can be detectable, quantified and localized in power transformers.
