Polymeric and ceramic insulators were tested under a.c. and d.c. cnditions.. The test results indicated that, the leakage currents measured for the ceramic insulators were higher than those measured for the polymeric insulators tested. It also showed that the leakage currents measured under a.c. conditions for both the glass and polymeric insulators tested were linear with applied voltage. The leakage currents measured under d.c. conditions for both the glass and polymeric insulators were linear until a certain critical voltage was reached, after which the currents increased nonlinearly.
