THE USE OF WASTE SLAG AND BY-PRODUCTS FROM THE ALUMINUM INDUSTRY AS A REFINING FLUX FOR THE STEEL INDUSTRY

In this paper, the possibility and practical results of using waste slag and by-products from the aluminum industry as a refining flux in the steel industry are discussed. Several successful processes to convert waste from the aluminum industry to steelmaking fluxes are introduced. Some theoretical aspects of using calcium aluminate based flux in desulphurization are outlined. By intelligent use of metallurgical waste materials, the total disposal of solid waste from metallurgical industries can be reduced.
