Schistosomiasis is one of serious zoonotic parasitic diseases epidemic along the Yangtze River and in south of China, caused by infection of Schistosomajaponicum and Oncomelenia snail is the only intermediate host of S.japonicum. During the last two decades, the development of geospatial technologies, notably remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS) provide useful tools to understand better the large-scale determinants of S. japonicum infection and develop reliable ways to identify populations for treatment. In order to understand the spatio-temporal heterogeneity of schistosomiasis to the overall transmission and identify evidence-based intervention strategies in different environmental settings, we investigated in the spatial epidemiology of schistosomiasis at various spatial scales in China.
