Laser desorption mass spectrometry was used to investigate the fragmentation and ionization dynamics of highly excited La@C_(82). It was found that the fragmentation into smaller metallofullerenes through loss of C_2-units competes stronger with ionization than is the case for the fullerene C_(60). We also present evidence for delayed ionization of La@C_(82).
