Elecrtronic and geometric structures of Gd@C_(82) metallofullerene peapods are investigated by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) and field-effect transistors (FETs) transport measurements. The results indicate that the electronic structure of Gd@C_(82) metallofullerene peapods is completely different from that of single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs). For example, Gd@C_(82)-peapods-FETs show the so-called 'ambipolar' behavior which is not observed in the empty SWNTs-FETs under our experimental conditions. The present findings suggest that metallofullerene peapods will be a promising channel for future electronic devices.
