Formation of nano-sized α-Al_2O_3 particles using industrial aluminum scrubber as the raw material was examined. Firstly, uniform agglomerates composed of θ-Al_2O_3 particles coated with boehmite gel, being similar to core-shell structure was obtained by precipitating boehmite particles on the surface of θ-Al_2O_3 particles. The agglomerate was oven dried and then thermal treated at temperatures ranging from 1100 to 1200℃ for 5 to 10 min. TEM investigations reveal that the obtained α-Al_2O_3 particles show sizes ranging from 50 to 150 nm.
