The World Wide Web (WWW) is currently being familiary with us very much, and will become the most significant service on the Internet. However, the WWW system dose not have enough facilities to be a real document or hypermedia "database system." In this paper, we focus on the management of integrity constraints for hyerplinks on WWW type hypermedia datab ase systmes. We introduce the notion of the path existence dependencies (PEDs), and give the basic formal definitions for them. The PED represents that if there is some reference path in the given database, then another corresponding reference path must also exist. We also propose a method to represent the integrity constraints of reference links in hypermedia databases using PED, and several intuitive examples are shown.
