Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has been used to simulate the transient mixing of an alloy slurry and acid in a dual impeller pressure leach autoclave. A sliding mesh technique is used to simulate the impeller rotation. The objective was to determine if the target blending criteria could be met within the specified time period required for complete leaching of the alloy slurry. The blend time, defined as the time required for the outlet alloy slurry concentration to come within 99% of the ideal mixed concentration, was found to be just under 3 minutes, or 12 tank turnovers, and within the specified time.
