Enthalpy distribution of metal droplets transferred into Twin-wire Co-weldpool Gas Metal Arc (TCGMAW) weldpool is investigated by high-speed photographing technology. An experimental apparatus is built up to observe droplet transfer in TCGMAW, which is composed of welding system, experimental platform, high-speed photographing system, laser back light system and data acquisition system. The characteristics of droplet transfer are studied and based on which a model on enthalpy distribution of metal droplets transferred into weldpool is established. By using the model, 3-D geometries of weldpools in TCGMAW are predicted. TCGMAW welding experiments on mild steel plates are carried out and the results indicate that the configuration of weld bead measured have good agreements with predicted ones.
