A hot-ball probe and a LDA system were used to study the gas-particle flow field in a model of second generation spouting-cyclone combustor. The gas flow field in the spouting zone shows large size recirculation. In the cyclone zone,detailed LDA measurements of tangential and axial velocities of gas and particle phases have been carried out. High tangential velocity and low axial velocity are caused by the strong swirling effect, which prolongs the particle residence time, and thus is favorable to the coal particle combustion and collection. The velocity slip between gas and particles is obvious. The measured flow field shows that the new generation combustor can intensify coal combustion.
