The deep-water lowstand fan and its exploration potential of Pearl River Mouth Basin (PRMB)

Pearl River Mouth Basin of South China Sea, a Cenozoic passive continent margin rift basin, is of great petroleum potentiality. Through sequence stratigraphy study, a numbers of vertically stacked lowstand fans are found in Baiyun Sag that has the biggest sag and the greatest hydrocarbon generation potential in PRMB. The genesis of Bauiyun Sag's lowstand fan is mainly periodic fall of relative sea level, abundant detritus input from paleo Pearl River and the sag's persistent subsidence. Overlying above massive Lower Tertiary lacustrine source rocks, and formed by sand rich paleo Pearl River, the Baiyun Sag's lowstand fan has great petroleum exploration potentiality.
