High performance C50 steel tube-confined concrete was made with rapid-hardening sulphoaluminate cement (R SAC) and an effective retarding and water-reducing superplasticizer M. The workability and mechanical properties of this kind of steel tube-confined concrete were researched. Experimental results show that the fresh C50 sulphoaluminate cement concrete has a perfect workability, such as slump of 23cm and flowability of higher than 60cm, those meet the need of requirements of concrete pumping technique. The 3d- compressive strength reaches 109% of designed strength and the 28-d compressive strength and the modulus of elasticity are 61.1Mpa and 42.1Gpa respectively. Furthermore, the free-expansion ratio for 60d age is 3.41×10~(-4), which could effectively decreases the probability of separation between concrete and steel tube generally existing in common steel tube-confined concrete.
