Mercerization of cellulose was studied under ultrasonic irradiation. The results show that there was no new functional group to product in this process, and ultraxionic irradiation might accelerate the mercerization process supported by Infrared Crystallinity Index (N-O'KI) and Degree of crystallinity (Xc) and the ultrastructure of cellulose Ⅱ is different from that of conventional process.
