The miscibility of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and chitosan in acetic acid aqueous solution was investigated. The result showed that in the mixed solution, chitosan and PEG could coexist stably, neither the precipitation of chitosan nor the crystallization of PEG took place over the whole range of PEG/chitosan ratios (90/10-10/90), chitosan and PEG exhibited good miscibility. The investigation of thermomechanical analysis indicated that when the temperature increased to 100℃, PEG within chitosan/PEG blend did not melt into liquid as pure PEG did, chitosan/PEG blend exhibited the same solid-solid phase change behavior as cellulose/PEG blend. The component of the blend has impact on its phase change behavior, as the chitosan fraction of the blend is larger than 15%, blend exhibits solid-solid phase change behavior, or else, it takes on solid-liquid phase transition.
