摘要

Stability of a system of small depth cavities excavated in roman pyroclastic weak rocks (puzzolana) is examined through analytical procedures and finite element analyses. Results aim to understand the phenomena involved in the ultimate limit states that may affect these very complex geotechnical systems, especially if a surcharge is applied upon the ground surface. The experimental evidence, concerning a system of cavities in Rome, agrees with analytical and numerical results.
