It is a new skill for reinforcing and widening of overused bridge in chinesernhighway construction field. Before 1980`s a lot of bridges had been built in China.rnMost of them are sufferring from heavy duty of vehicles and becoming dangerous forrnroad users because of increased traffic volume and load capicity, and this results in hugerncosts of their replacement with new bridges increasement.rnMany provincal highway institues are searching for new methods to reinforce and widenrnoverused bridge,But it is a new creation to reinforce and widen an overused bridge and tornraise the load capacity at the same time by use of installing stiffened marginal beamrnand stiffened bridge concrete pavement. This paper demonstrates the possibility of thernnew method. based on the twice still and dynamic load tests for the Shahe bridgernwith and without reinforcing and widening. It shows that this method will make greatrneconmic and social profits and has a great value in this field through the analysis andrndemonstration of economic and social profits.In the end of the paper a quick method tornevaluate the load capability of an old bridge is given. This achievement has already beenrnacknowleged by related authority of national communication committee.They think that itrnis with remarkable economic and social profits, advanced technique,and reaches the toprnlevel in China.
