Errors in measurements of concentrations of atmospheric gases by the differential absorption method (DAM) in the infrared (IR) spectral range are discussed in the paper. Two origins of the errors are considered. The first one is the spectral behavior of aerosol optical properties at on- and off-wavelengths. The second origin is a multiple scattering contribution to a sounding signal. Sample computations of the errors are given to compare them with the respective errors owing to atmospheric uncertainties, such as presence of unknown gases other than a desired one, estimated atmospheric temperature and pressure, etc.
