Interface Management (IM) is traditionally used in high-technology projects, such as information systems. In the present study, the application of Interface Management is extended to Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) projects. On the basis of UNIDO's BOT phasing approach, Sanvido's Integrated Building Process Model (IBPM) and a comprehensive review of BOT literature, a BOT Process Model is developed with IDEFO modeling methodology. This model is used to identify interfaces from four key aspects: project process, management level, participants, and operational characteristics. Six Interface Management principles are presented and discussed in relation with BOT projects. These principles include: keeping static interfaces clearly defined and ensuring full working out of the static subsystems at each stage of the project process; recognizing that the skills required in managing dynamic interfaces vary depending on the management level and stage of the project; recognizing that each major project change point requires its own distinctive total management; recognizing that planning must be phased to the stage of the project process; recognizing that control needs vary depending on the level of control and stage of the project; and recognizing that personnel issues will vary, again depending on the level of control and the stage of the project.
