Cell viability, relative area of mucilage, and cell number of border cells were detected after incubating detached root border cells of pea (Pisum sativum) with different concentration of AlCl_3 for 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 24 h respectively. Results indicated cell viability decreased with increase Al concentration from 0 to 100μM, whereas increased from 100 to 500μM Al. Cell number also decreased with the increase of Al concentration. Relative area of mucilage increased with time course and Al levels, and it was obviously higher at 8h and at 500 and 250μM Al. Thus disclosed that Al induced cell death at dosage dependent manner at lower Al concentration but not at higher concentration that might be related to thickening of mucilage and decomposing of border cells.
