The PCE-1 24' oil pipeline, point: inspection alternatives for a 'non-piggable' pipeline

The PCE-1 24" pipeline was completed in 1982 and carries 15% of the Campos Basin's oil production to the continent at about 800 m3/h. In 1995 it was repaired by inserting three subsea mechanical connectors. This repair impeded the run of any conventional "rigid pigs" with instruments or for cleaning. Through the adaptation of accessories and electronic devices in flexpigs it became possible to clean and inspect geometrically and to evaluate the internal corrosion of the pipeline. The results permitted the safe operation of the pipeline with the connectors.
