In Poland over 50,000 peatlands cover a total area of 1,300000 ha, and they have peat deposits of various type and origin. In the present study the inorganic geochemical analyses were used to access the physical and chemical differentiation of peat. The specific character of local geomorphological and hydrological condition caused that the chemical feauteres of investigated peat samples were various. Statistical cluster analysis was used to check the overall similarity of peats in respect to botanical origin and investigated geochemical parameters of them. We suggest that the wood peats, both Alneti and Betuleti peat, should be in the same chemical group of peat. We propose to extract the Saliceti peat from the lowmoor peat. Saliceti and Minero Sphagnioni peats may be classified as the transitional peat.
