On pristine spruce and pine mires the stand structure is characteristically uneven, and have found to continue for some decades after drainage until forest management evens the structure. In this study, the effect of forest drainage on the stand structure was analysed in two different ways: by examining the canopy layer structure and by examining the detailed DBH distribution of the stands. Comparisons were made between the remnants of pristine spruce mires and corresponded drained sites. Diverse stand structure remained on the studied sites. Effect of drainage was better observed as changes in species composition and proportions in different canopy layers according the layer structure analysis.
