The investigations of kinetics of ozone and aqueous chloride solutionsrninteraction, resulting in Cl2 emission into the gas phase, have beenrnperformed. The reaction O3 + Cl – has been found to be accelerated byrnH+ ions, but demonstrates saturation effect as [H+] increases. The effectrnof H+ and Cl – concentrations, ion strength, temperature (in the range ofrn7 – 60℃) on the reaction rate has been studied. The mechanism thatrnexplains all experimental kinetic features of the reaction has beenrnproposed. Acid catalysis is explained by formation of a complex HO3Clrnin equilibrium with H+, O3, Cl–. Numerical values of the constants ofrnthe mechanism stages have been determined.
