Volasil 245? (decamethylcyclopentasiloxane), originally developed asrna heat exchange fluid, has been found to dissolve ten times more ozonernthan water does. Extracting wastewater contaminants to ozone-loadedrnVolasil 245? is proposed as a means of providing rapid wastewaterrndecontamination. In a series of bench scale tests, the effectiveness ofrnozone-loaded Volasil 245? contact is compared with that ofrnconventional gas contact. Tests are conducted with respect to a rangernof organic compounds, namely: phenol, 2-chlorophenol, 2,3-rndichlorophenol, 1,3-dichlorobenzene, o-nitrotoluene and nitrobenzene.rnIn all instances, contact with the ozone-loaded solvent is suggested tornbe the more rapid technique, reducing aqueous concentrations by ≥ 85rn% within 30 seconds. This paper presents and discusses the resultsrnobtained, and proposes a design for a prototype Volasil 245? Liquid-rnLiquid/Ozone wastewater treatment rig.
