This study investigates the catalytic role of surface modifiedrngranular activated carbon (GAC) and metal doped-GAC inrntransforming ozone into more reactive secondary radicals such asrnOH radicals for water treatment. To calculate the yield of OH?rnproduction per decomposed ozone, p-chlorobenzoic acid (pCBA)rnwas used as a probe. The GAC doped with Mn showed thernhighest Rct value as the ratio of the OH? concentration to the O3rnconcentration. The combined ozone/Mn-GAC or ozone/GACrnprocess is more effective than the single oxidation process likernozonation, this catalytic ozonation as a new type AOP has anrnapparent synergistic effect in organic oxidation.
