Minerals Processing with Ozone. ThermodynamicsAspects and Laboratory Tests

The use of ozone in minerals processing by hydrometallurgical processrnhas been little studied. One of the main study topics in this field hasrnbeen the destruction of the cyanide from wastewaters of gold and silverrncyanidation. However, the ozone has been seen as an optional leachingrn– oxidants agent to treat some minerals "refractoriness" or difficult tornattach by traditional process. This work presents some of the resultsrnobtained at laboratory scale on the use of the ozone in the chemicalrnoxidation of different mineral species, such as sulphur – containing inrncoal, copper minerals (chalcopyrite and chalcosite), precious mineralsrnand zinc-dust of steel making. The thermodynamics aspects of each onerncase studied are explained. The results showed in this work permits tornopen an opportunity area to ozone application focused to use of cleanrntechnologies (as ozone) in the minerals processing and by-productsrntreating.
