There has been longstanding interest in corium-concrete interaction phenomenology because the reactor containment forms the final barrier between fission products and the environment. The Fukushima accident has heightened this interest by revealing the ex-vessel melt scenario to be less unlikely than many had previously thought. Thus containment basemat resistance to corium attack is receiving renewed scrutiny. This paper presents new analysis of two tests, one of siliceous concrete and the other of limestone common sand concrete. The test data highlights observed differences in erosion behavior and how concrete composition influences erosion mechanisms.
