Influences on the Particulate Emissions of Medium-Speed Diesel Engines

National and international standards for limiting the particulate emission of Diesel engines exist or are planned. With the emission of Diesel engines one must distinguish between soot, dust and particulates and their different measurement techniques, which are described in this paper. Comparative measurements were performed to determine the influences of load, speed and fuel on the emission of soot, dust and particulates from medium-speed Diesel engines. Also measurements with exhaust gas after-treatment by an SCR reactor of a medium-speed Diesel engine were carried out and the influence on the particulate emission determined at maximum NOX-reduction.
