摘要

The container ship and ferry have been playing important role increasingly year by year in the general cargo transportation. In responding increasing role, technological efforts have being made in order to improve transportation energy performance of container ship and ferry. The transportation energy performance TEP is defined here as the specific fuel consumption required for trans- porting a payload unit over a trip distance unit. This paper reviews how the TEP of container ships and ferrieshave been improved in these 20 years, and investigates the reason why those improvements have been achieved from the viewpoint that the TEP is determined by 4 main component technics of supporting, powering, propelling, and payloading.
