An Advisable Direction for Aesthetic Values of Gardens: A Superficial Discussion of Comparison and Blending of Chinese and Japanese Gardens

摘要

Starting from the aesthetic subject, aesthetic object and aesthetic intermediary in aesthetic ideas, this paper tries to emphatically discuss the fact that though Chinese and Japanese gardens can be traced to the same origin, entirely different garden styles and systems have been brought up due to their different geographic locations, different garden types and different philosophical supports. This paper puts forward the view that comparison is not the final aim of researches. Instead, we should start from the angle of comparison and have practice and creation in mind, so that the two main branches of art in the garden school of East Asia can present new vitality.
