摘要

Breakthrough curves (BTC) are usually analyzed using temporal moments. For a pulse injection the BTC corresponds exactly with the distribution of travel time (τ), that is, the time for a particle to move from the input location to the measurement point. Due to imperfect knowledge of the subsurface, travel time is treated as a random variable, and the goal is to derive its statistical moments. Travel time moments should be conditioned on all the available information (either hard or soft data), to account for all existing data. Conditioning helps reducing the uncertainty in the estimations, as measured by the estimated variance of the travel time (Rubin and Dagan, 1992).
