New Technology for Management and Security of Exploration and Mining Information

A hidden asset in most exploration and mining activities is data. Common practice involves the spending of large amounts of money to discover, define and prove the viability of a mining project. Some organisations have used operations research analysis and internal costing methods to allocate a value to their data and to compare the costs of data maintenance to other more tangible activities like plant and equipment maintenance. Those organisations, which do not undertake such an alaysis often, have little knowledge or understanding of the extent and the worth of their data. Often the organisations lack of knowledge and undersanding of the data is indicated by their failure to fully exploit or realise their opportunities.
