Determination of safety criteria and diagnostics of the behaviour of dams in operation

The promptitude and objectivity indispensable during the operational monitoring are assured by solving a number of methodological, engineering and organizing problems, the formulation of criteria of limiting state (of safety criteria) being priority number one. The paper presents the main statements of the method and examples of determining the dam safety criteria. The basic approaches to diagnostics of the state of dams in operation based on comparison of field observations data and safety criteria are given. The diagnostic rules formulated on the basis of expert appraisal and statements of fuzzy sets theory are considered.
