12-Volt/20-Watt fuel cells are too powerful for portable electronics. Yet they are too week to substitute for human power, which is now used to propel bicycles, boats, lawnmowers etc. But there are a number of applications in this power range for which fuel cells may be considered. Compact and light fuel cells could replace heavy lead acid batteries in outdoor applications. They may even enable applications, which have not yet been considered seriously. 20-Watt fuel cells could, for example, be used to power more sophisticated and powerful lighting system, small ventilators, water pumps, rotary grills or "bug lights". They could be used to recharge batteries for portable electronic equipment and cellular phones, emergency signals and many other conveniences a camper would enjoy in the absences of grid power.
