To provide QoS(Quality of Service) support capabilities in wireless network, it's essential to develop a MAC protocol with service differentiation mechanism. This paper presents a novel MAC protocol on the base of IEEE802.11 standard DCF service, namely, PBCR(Partial Backoff Contention Resolution). This protocol is developed on the following innovative ideas: to reduce contention probability we redistribute the backoff timers evenly in contention window size space. And two parameters are introduced for service differentiation mechanism in PBCR. It's shown that PBCR provides not only high throughput performance in wireless network, but also simple and effective means to achieve service differentiation. In this paper we are concerned with the service differentiation mechanism of PBCR. We first model the proposed protocol by a Markov chain, by solving the model we analytically demonstrate the support of QoS, then simulation result is given to validate the analytical result of the model.
