摘要

The urgent need to provide novel quality communications services to rural and remote regions and the associated difficulties are well recognized. GSM radio network is being considered to overcome some of these difficulties. In particular GSM system is able to provide services to remote areas equivalent to these available in urban centres. The impetus of this research is the hypothesis that different networks possess different protocol standard, and this has stimulated the concept of this article. A new interfacing model has been put forward to ensure the compatibility of the GSM standard protocol with land line networks, or otherwise, protocols. This paper introduces a GPS-GSM testbed, a full internetworking model is presented for the two systems and a thorough study of the GPS receiver performance is investigated in the harsh GSM mobile environment. The study clearly shows a superior performance of the GPS/GSM internetworking system despite the multipath fading encountered in the interfacing process. The concept of this technique is well suited to the future provision of the integration of all networks.
