Wireless Local Area Network systems (WLANs) offer multiple services, such as file transfers, videoconference or Internet access anywhere, any time. All these services can be offered by Ad-hoc networks, which allow multiple devices to establish wireless communication. The aim of this paper is to test the performance and throughput of the 802.11b and 802.11g standards, for determining which the standards more appropriate for applications videoconference in Ad-hoc network. In order to achieve our goal we implemented a series of tests to measure the throughput and transmission speed of data and video in real time over Ad-hoc networks based on IEEE's 802.11b and 802.11g standards. These tests will allow us to compare how they behave under different scenarios and conditions. Finally we offer our results, we concluded that the 802.11b standard is more mature for this type of applications.
