Unpredictable and frequent changes in topology, high mobility, low and limited bandwidth are, among others, typical characteristics of ad-hoc networks. In such an environment it is extremely difficult to provide quality of service (QoS) features, since a lot of parameters such as bandwidth, delay, jitter packet loss rate have to be satisfied. In this paper we propose a position-based routing approach for quality of service support in ad-hoc and sensor networks using a distributed location server architecture. The server-based approach provides a reliable solution for integrating time synchronization in the ad-hoc and sensor network architecture. Main teaching is that position-based routing offers a valuable support in the handling of a series of key issues to be solved while trying to ensure QoS in ad-hoc and sensor networks. A framework to support both QoS and time synchronization is introduced in this paper.
