A novel flat-sheet type nonwovens filtration membrane module with 3μm nominal pore diameter was applied in an aerated submerged membrane bioreactor for the synthetic domestic wastewater treatment. The average removal rates of COD, TOC, BOD_5, NH_3-N were respectively 96%,98%,95% and 95%; the effluent contained COD < 15 mg · L~(-1), TOC < 4 mg·L~(-1), BOD_5 < 10 mg·L~(-1), NH_3-N < 3 mg·L~(-1) on the condition that the surface flux of the nonwovens was set at 30L / m~2·h. In addition, the nonwovens fouling could be eliminated almost entirely by cleaning with 0.3% (wt) NaClO solution. After cleaning, the nonwovens flux could be recovered by about 94%. The result of the experiment showed it was of great advantage for applying the nonwovens bioreactor for the domestic wastewater treatment.
