Special shield tunnelling methods in Japan

摘要

Since around 1990, a variety of shield tunneling methods for constructing tunnels with non-single-circle cross sections have been in use in Japan. Of these methods, this paper introduces examples of successful application of the DOT (Double-O-Tube) shield method, which is a multi-circular shield tunneling method, and the multi-stage shield method using an expandable multi-stage shield system.
