The Issues on the Sustainable Progress of Shaoxing City's Urbanization

Shaoxing is located in the south of the Yangtze River Delta. Shaoxing City enjoys a history of nearly 2,500 years since it was founded in 490 B. C. , and is one of the first 24 famous historical cultural cities approved in China. Since its reform and opening up, industry swiftly developed given main body to individual, private and collective economy, accelerating the change of urban framework in Shaoxing in a decisive way. With continued urban expansion and spread of villages enterprises, the industrial outcome resulted in this region provided with economic foundation and space outline for the urbanization, also with increasing pressure to the environment and ecology. It was becoming a top priority task for the municipal government to balance fairness and sustainable development ability in the urbanization progress. Over the last several years, Shaoxing blazed a trail suited to its own features on a sustainable urban development, establishing the urban development framework in the fields of industry, spacial urban design, ecology and culture.
