Study on Sustainable Urban Development and Measures to Tackle Water Pollution

Urbanization, as a strategic issue of social and economic development, was brought forward as a significant strategic objective for the tenth five-year plan period on the fifth Session of the 15th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) . To put it into smooth practice is significant for the development of the whole nation or a certain area. Sustainable development, a fresh new value and mode of development, has been created in the conditions of environmental pollution, bloating population and deficient resources. While people reviewing and drawing on experiences of hundreds of years, sustainable development has been put forward on the basis of the latest research achievement. As center of local social and economic development, city is the core area of human activities with dense population. Sustainable urban development is a key to the sustainable development of a certain area or even the whole society. Sustainable urban development means, during a certain period and in a certain area, both urbanization and modernization are well developed and realized by means of durable and continuous increase and structure improvement so as to satisfy demands of not only the present cities but also the future ones. Sustainable urban development is a new value, and also a new strategy and mode of urban development which emphasizes more on the quality improvement while pursuing for the advancement. Quality-oriented and intensive measures should be taken to keep the development of economy, society and ecological environment in balance . The development must base on the status quo and conditions and has the future well-planned without environmental deterioration or decrease of living standard resulted for future generations.
