Erosion and Impact Wear Resistance of Thermal Sprayed Coatings

Thermal sprayed coatings are widely used for protection against abrasive wear of rapidly wearing parts of different kinds of milling equipment. Coatings of tungsten carbide based hardmetal, nickel based self-fluxing alloy and composites were deposited using HVOF and spray fusion processes. Abrasive impact wear tests were performed on these coatings with granite gravel in 4-6 mm size range, and test results with abrasive erosion test results with silica abrasive were compared. A study of the wear resistance of the coatings in a disintegrator mill is described.
