摘要

The modern cable suspended bridges are advanced systems of fundamental importance by social, environmental, technical and scientific view point. It is absolutely critic to predict their structural performances in advance, in such a way as defining the qualitative and quantitative element for their definition. In this work a performance approach (Performance-based Design) to this problem is represented, dividing the general treatment of this subject in two several aspects: one related to the performance approach and its main arguments, in special regard to the Messina Strait Bridge, the other related to modelling phase, the topic phase of the whole process of design. In fact, this point is central in the performance-based design, because it is necessary to simulate the real future structural behavior as better as possible. Therefore, it is fundamental the management, construction and validation of the model.
